Joy2theWorld International Christian Academy (NGO) (J2W) has chosen The Environment as our theme for Term 3 2015. Each class, Nursery through Primary 1 will study the environment and take on a project. The class may be coloring pages, growing a garden, learning about soil or “adopting a gutter”.
We started the term with a field trip to Accra Compost & Recycling Plant where the children learned how collected trash and waste is separated and recycled. The students learned about the dangers of waste and the safety measures of washing hands and how placing our trash in the bins really is important to improve our environment.
Every class is responsible for their project, the planning, the timing and the ultimate presentation in 10 weeks as part of our Environment Exhibit. We just started and there is a buzz around about all that we are learning! Here are some pictures.
Primary 1 has “adopted a gutter” and they will (with close supervision, boots, gloves, etc.) be cleaning a gutter where trash and waste keeps the rain water from flowing. Our students will be talking to neighbors as well. It is a serious problem here in Ghana and a brave project for our Primary 1 students!
KG1 is studying soil (clay, lomi and sand) and after a field trip to collect clay, they are using their resources for creative art! KG2 is planting a garden and they will be documenting the results along the way.
J2W is teaching our students about the environment and about our responsibility in keeping it clean. We are very proud of the projects and our students. Stay tuned!
