NURSES FROM KUMASI PROVIDED FREE BREAST EXAMS TO 90 WOMEN AT OPEN FORUM
Women clients who attended the Open Forum heard a lecture on preventative health practices. Nurses from Kumasi (a 3 hour drive one-way) arrived to provide free breast exams for women. Thanks to the American Cancer Society, handouts with pictures and diagrams were given to each woman who attended. Ninety women had free private exams and the information “you can LIVE with early detection!”. Women sat on the edge of their seats, listening carefully.
Polio Vaccines:
I am so proud of the work that Rotary is doing internationally. Rotary has partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to fight polio and is winning!
Living here in Ghana, I was actually able to deliver polio vaccines to the children living in the rural communities where I live. I am so blessed to have this opportunity to make a difference with the help of Rotary!
If you are looking for a way to make a difference, consider becoming a Rotarian! You can find out more about membership at https://www.rotary.org/myrotary/en/rotary-foundation.
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL’S “END POLIO NOW” CAMPAIGN IN GHANA
Last Saturday, Syambra and I participated in Rotary International’s “End Polio Now” Campaign in Ghana.
Normally, as a Rotarian, I would donate at my local Rotary (District 5890 in Houston) but now I belong to District 9100 in Accra.
We actually get to participate in the immunizations! Two drops on the child’s tongue is all it takes…plus a little black ink on their fingernail to mark the vaccination.
We actually went to some of the villages where our women clients live but we also went way back into the smaller, more remote villages as well. Overall, the goal was over 50,000 vaccines over a 3 day period.
