Project-Based Learning is a system of learning that is pragmatic and enables students’ ability to interact with the environments within which they find themselves. With this type of learning, knowledge acquired theoretically is applied to solve a problem or answer a complex question that needs critical thoughts and analysis. Basically, Project Based Learning, PBL for short, exposes the student to the real world in which they find ways to solve real-life challenges or problems.
Joy2TheWorld International Christian Academy as part of our culture and educational system introduces a theme for PBL termly. Teachers are therefore expected to collaborate with their students to work
The theme for this terms’ Project-Based Learning is the ENVIRONMENT. Each class chooses a project to experience their understanding of the environment in real-world activities.
As a result, the P5 students applied their lessons on the environment to actual and practical experience. Basically, Project Based Learning, PBL for short, exposes the student to the real world.
Here in Ghana, we use open gutters and from time to time, they can get blocked. With heavy rains, the blocked gutters can cause flooding.
P5 stepped up to apply their knowledge and experience to clean our gutter. Dressed for hard work, students worked together to sweep away the clutter. Even their teacher, Mr. Mark, jumped in to help.
The themes change from term-to-term but the progress for this term is clearly making an impact on our school’s environment.
