Joy2theWorld International Christian Academy begins each day all together for assembly. Our students and teachers line up in their classes and are led by a student in a morning praise song, the Lord’s Prayer, the Ghanaian national anthem, and our school pledge. Finally, some student drummers strike the beat of our marching song and each class is dismissed to march to their classrooms.
The Ghanaian National Anthem:
“God bless our homeland Ghana
And make our nation great and strong,
Bold to defend forever
The cause of Freedom and of Right;
Fill our hearts with true humility,
Make us cherish fearless honesty,
And help us to resist oppressors’ rule
With all our will and might for evermore.”
Joy2theWorld School Pledge:
“Today is going to be a good day. I thank God for waking me up today. I am in Joy2theWorld International Christian Academy so that I can learn and go to college and be the leader that God intended me to be. Today, I will be educated and empowered by my teachers with the tools to be successful in my community and throughout my country. I apply myself daily. I study. I ask questions when I do not understand. When I am confronted with a problem or a conflict, I think before I act. I ignore all negative influences in the classroom and throughout my school day. I am extremely proud to be the next generation of Christian leaders. I accept responsibility and I love the challenge. Peace.”
Our instructors teach about all sorts of interesting things, from science to spelling and many things in between. Our amazing cooks serve lunch to the students, who eat speedily and play during their lunch break. The students then return to their classrooms for the rest of their lessons for the day until 3:00pm when the extracurricular classes begin.
Some of the children visit our library, play football on the playground, or take care of our turtle, Charlie, while others learn about STEM, art, or computers, and still others do mental math or spelling competitions.
On Wednesdays, we meet in the lunchroom instead of the playground for assembly and we praise God together to start our day. We sing praises, pray together, and hear the Word of God from one of our instructors. This time sets the tone for the rest of the week and keeps our eyes trained on God’s plan for our school that day.
We often go on field trips, generally every month, to continue our education outside of the school building and to see first-hand the things we have been studying. Some of our favorite places to visit are the Orthopedic Training Center, Kotoka Airport in Accra, and the University of Ghana Library.
Our students are challenged with stimulating classes, trained in critical thinking, and encouraged to plan for their future by deciding what they want to be when they grow up and working toward that goal through education. We thank God for the opportunity to speak the truth of the Lord into the lives of these children and know that He has great plans for our bright young students. We hope that you will consider partnering with us to continue this ministry in Ghana.
